Controlling a DM is challenging in wavefront sensorless adaptive optics. No direct measurements of the real phase produced by the DM are available. Consequently, errors in the phase cannot be corrected via a feedback loop. For this reason, identifying an accurate static model of the DM is important in reducing the uncertainty in the control of the phase.
In the following, a MMDM with 37 actuators is controlled in open-loop to produce Zernike aberrations.
